When a famous Celtic medallion rumored to have mystical origins—the prize for a charity raffle—is stolen, Lowan competes with a rival private detective to find it in time for the St. Patrick’s Day parade. Meanwhile, Detective Lieutenant Marx investigates the death of a history professor and faces off with a lifelong enemy. Lowan is called away from the search to find a missing man instead, but Tully Brannigan—the owner of the medallion—won’t accept any excuses for failure to find it on time. Mounting problems force Lowan into an uncomfortable alliance as the deadline approaches.

S. E. Grosskopf’s writing is strongly influenced by the old pulp fiction magazines and Golden Age radio dramas of the 1930s-1950s. If you like fast-paced action and mystery with a dash of urban fantasy and quirkiness, then you’ll love these books. This is the second book in the series. The books follow chronologically. Reading them in order is recommended.

The Second Course.png

Lowan and Marx barely survived their last case, and the next one comes at them all too quickly. Their next target: Guido Genovesi, the second member of the insurance syndicate. The man they find defies their expectations—a cook, a husband, and a father, who wanted nothing more than to run a restaurant and secure his family’s future. When events at his restaurant spiral out of control amid a web of revenge, insurance fraud, and mistaken identity, Genovesi’s desperate bid for a new beginning collides with the misdeeds of a past that wasn’t his own. Hunted by both the police and a man he never wronged, Genovesi makes a deal he might not live to keep. Conspiracies unravel, danger escalates, and every choice could be fatal. What price must be paid for redemption?
